Aerial gunner Ed Drew has a passion for photography, but not the type of photography you’re used to seeing.
During a three-month deployment with his helicopter Combat Rescue Unit in the Helmand River Province, Afghanistan he used tin-types, a style of photography that hasn’t been prevalent in nearly 150 years, to capture these stirring images of his company between combat missions.
The result is equal parts gritty and emotional because it is the first time tin-type photography has been used during combat since the Civil War. It is as if a company of soldiers from 2015 suddenly found themselves in 1865
