Nettles Island Veterans
Article I – Name
The name of this organization shall be Nettles Island Veterans.
Article II – Purpose
Our purpose is to provide a connection point for the Veteran population of Nettles Island. The main intent of this group of men and women is one of remembrance, solidarity, education and good fellowship. We are committed to being a support group to NI veterans and their families who are in need.
Article III – Active Membership
- Active membership shall be open to any Veteran (male or female) of the US and Canadian Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Navy (Active or Reserve service), National Guard or Merchant Marines, residing at Nettles Island as an owner or renter. Widows and Widowers of NI Veterans may join as Auxiliary members.
- Active membership of this group shall be without discrimination.
- Membership dues are to be paid annually January in the amount of $10. No dues for Auxiliary Members. Yearly dues must be current to maintain active membership.
ARTICLE IV – EXECUTIVE OFFICERS
- The Executive Officer positions for Nettles Island Veterans shall be as follows:
- President
- Vice President
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Executive Officers Shall constitute the Executive Board
- Positions of Executive Officers shall be occupied for a period of one (1) year
- Executive Officer Duties:
- President
- Preside at Executive Board and General Body meetings
- Responsible for appointment of special committees and/or committee chairpersons, with approval from the Executive Board
- Presentation of an annual report
- Responsible for other such duties as may be required by the By-Laws or resolutions of the Executive Board not inconsistent with the nature of the office
- Vice President
- Preside in the President’s absence and perform other such duties as may be required by the By-Laws or resolutions of the Executive Board not inconsistent with the nature of the office
- Procure supplies for meetings and events
- Responsible for planning and implementation of group activities and special events
- Secretary
- Attend to all general correspondences of the organization
- Responsible for keeping minutes at all Executive Board and General Body meetings
- Check and maintain group email and website
- Responsible for other such duties as may be required by the By-Laws or resolutions of the Executive Board not inconsistent with the nature of the office
- Treasurer
- Supervise the financial administration of all revenue
- Report periodically to the Executive Board and membership on the financial condition of the organization
- Responsible for other such duties as may be required by the By-Laws or resolutions of the Executive Board not inconsistent with the nature of the office Executive Board not inconsistent with nature of the office
- Election of Officers
- Annual elections will be held during the March general members meeting
- Participation in officer elections will be restricted to active members of the Nettles Island Veterans.
- Each active member will be granted one (1) vote towards each open office
- Officers will be elected by written ballot, with each active member present at the meeting casting a vote
- Electoral victory shall be constituted by a majority vote greater than or equal to two-thirds (2/3) of the total votes cast by the active members present.
- In the event of a tie, the vote will be defeated and recast at the following meeting after the two candidates are given the opportunity to speak in their own favor
- Recall of Officers
- Officers are subject to recall for malfeasance (illegal or dishonest activity) while serving in office
- Recall procedures may be initiated at the request of five (5) active members
- A hearing shall be conducted at a regular meeting for the presentation of evidence from all concerned parties
- A majority of those active members voting in a recall at the end of the hearing is necessary and sufficient to remove any individual from office
ARTICLE V – VOTING AND CONSTITUTION
- This constitution and By-Laws may be amended by a two-thirds (2/3) majority-vote of those voting, a quorum being present
- Notice for voting on amendments shall be given no less than two (2) weeks before the vote, and shall be limited to active membership
- A review and update of this constitution shall be conducted bi-annually officially
ARTICLE VI – AMENDMENT POLICY
Amendments to this Constitution may be proposed to the voting membership by majority vote of the Executive Committee or by a petition signed by one-fourth of the active members. Amendments may be declared or adopted which are presented at the two general assembly meetings and receive a majority favorable vote at both meetings by the active members present
ARTICLE VII – BYLAWS
Bylaws, not inconsistent with the Constitution, may be adopted or amended by a two-thirds majority of the active members present at any general or special meetings, provided the bylaws are submitted in writing at least one week previously at either regular or special meetings of the general membership
